It is only a short walk down the hill to Chiang Dao Cave, which you can explore with the help of a guide with a lantern. The village around the Cave and surrounding area is very peaceful, with hot springs, temples and restaurants a walk or a bike ride away.
Begin at the Pavilion at Chiang Dao Roundhouses and plan your day while you sip your locally grown coffee. There is lots to see. Some attractions are nearby, a few minutes walk away, and some a bicycle ride or bus ride through the beautiful scenery of rural Thailand. Don't forget to leave time to just relax and enjoy the peace at Chiang Dao Roundhouses.
Chiang Dao Cave has been used as a place of worship for centuries. Buddha images can be seen amoung the stalactites and stalagmites. You can explore the passageways and caverns with a lantern carrying guide.
Tuesday is Market Day in Chiang Dao Town, a ten minute drive away, or a bicycle ride. Hill people come down to the town to shop wearing their colourful traditional clothes. This is not a tourist market, but a market by and for local people. It is very interesting and great for photographers.
The nearest waterfall only works during the rainy season, but a big waterfall, an all year event, is in a national park a few kilometers away. Check the link below for directions.
Doi Chiang Dao is a stunning mountain of limestone peaks, rising to 2188 metres (7174 feet). Guides can be arranged to lead you to the top. This can be a day hike or two days and camp on the top. From November to February only.
This gem of a Chedi is part of a Buddhist Temple complex just a few minutes walk up the gentle hill from Chiang Dao Roundhouses. The views of Doi Chiang Dao Mountain from here are breathtaking. This is not the only temple in the area, and another worth visiting can be reached by climbing about 500 steps up through the jungle.
This is our local hot springs by a Karen village about 10 minutes away. The villagers have made a series of rings that you can submerge yourself in, hot to very hot, and then there is a stream beside to cool off in. Next door is a more formal set up of two pools with changing rooms, 50 Baht pp. The photograph here is of the private pool.
